My maternal grandparents, Elizabeth and William Devore, were married 63 years ago on May 1, 1954.
Grandma and Poppy tied the knot in 1958, the Saturday before Palm Sunday.
Kris’ grandparents were married in 1961.
In 1983, my parents got married on the first day of the year. This is us and Kris last spring. I love my family.
Kris’ parents tied the knot in 1987.
Kris and I were born in 1990, just 9 days apart.
As we look ahead to start our marriage in 2017, we can look back at least 63 years and see that we come from at least 242 years of marriage (I didn’t include the generation before our grandparents, or our aunts and uncles, or the couples that have meant a lot to us along the way).
I’m thinking of Hebrews 12:1-2 as I think about this legacy.
Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off every encumbrance and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with endurance the race set out for us. Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of our faith…
