In education, you are supposed to be able to go into any classroom and be able to ask a student, “What are you doing?” and “What are you learning” and get a good answer. If the student doesn’t know what they are supposed to be doing, they won’t be learning. If the student doesn’t know what they are supposed to be learning, they won’t know the purpose of what they are doing and then they won’t be learning as effectively. The best teachers effectively communicate the answers to these questions to their listening students.
I think these questions can also apply to the bigger picture of life. I want to know what I’m supposed to be doing day to day – what to spend my time on, how to react. I also want to know what I’m supposed to be learning, especially in tough times.
God is our Best Teacher, our First Teacher. We want to hear from Him what we are supposed to be doing and learning every day. The best way to get connected with God is to listen to Him through prayer, His word, His leading, and worship.
“Now therefore, listen to me, my children,
For blessed are those who keep my ways.”
What can you do to make hearing from God a priority today? How will you react to what you hear from Him?
